Angelina Jolie Visits Kenya

Kenya1

I’ve spent most of my weekend relaxing with my kids and catching up on a bit of work. Angelina Jolie, however, spent her Saturday in Kenya, drawing attention to the severe overcrowding problem that the country is dealing with.

I love how dedicated Angelina is to being a UNHCR ambassador and how much she does for others – it’s always such a beautiful thing to see. It’s sad, though, that we need to have people like Angelina, isn’t it? It sounds corny, but world peace would be a wonderful thing to achieve in our lifetime.

As you know, they only release photos after Angelina has left the area, and these just popped up. I’m sure there will be more soon! More photos as they become available!

Angie is truly dedicated to her cause!I love that about her!!!She really does her best to help refugees!
It is sad though that we need people like Angie(I mean famous people)to bring awareness to important issues like refugees. But this is really helpful.A lot of people(including myself)learn about UNHCR and start helping them because of Angie!
I’m really proud to be her fan!!!
Thanks Randi for the news and the pics!I can’t wait fot more!!!

It is nice that Angie is getting the time to make these trips to help others. Wasn’t it just last month that she and Madd went to Iraq. This is a good woman. Makes me proud to be her fan.

We need a lot more Angelina’s in this world! I know she is “naturally thin” and busy chasing kids but I do wish she’d put a few pounds on, or at least ‘tone up’. There is a posting on PerezHilton from crew members that worked on Transformers blasting Megan Fox because of some vile things she said about the director. (She compared him to Hitler) Anyway they were speaking of the comparison everyone makes between Megan & Angelina and they said they had the pleasure of working with Angelina and unlike Megan, Angelina was a complete professional. They blasted Megan pretty hard but from everything I’ve been reading that she has been quoted as saying she rightly deserves it.

stratoula – I sooo agree with you! It´s truly amazing and a great thing that Angie is so dedicated to help the refugees. And I, too, find it sad that we do need celebrities to remind us of these poor and unfortunate people. Any one of us could become a refugee any day. Angie is doing a great job of reminding us Westerners that there are countries in the world where people lack even the basic necessities of life – like a house to live in, the water and food. And although she is a mother of six she always has time and energy to her work as UNHRC goodwill ambassador. While she was in Kenya Brad sure took good care of their children. He, too, sure loves this caring side of Angie a lot. He has visited some of those camps with her and seen in which kind of conditions many people live. It must have shocked him too. Together these two help those who need help and they sure want their children to continue their work one day. God bless the Jolie-Pitts forever!

  5. Kim says

Yes, Angie is an amazing woman and such a positive role model, despite what critics think.
I will say that in past years some of her UNHRC work has coincided with where she adopted from. I wonder when the last time she was in Africa? I have been waiting for them to adopt another African child especially since in a past interview she commented that Shiloh had her and Brad to look at and see a resemblance of herself, so Angie referred that she wanted all her children to have someone or a sib to have some resemblance – Maddox has Pax, but Zahara hasn’t had another sibling of color. I bet you will see Brad and Angie finalize an adoption from Africa in the near future.

  6. Kati says

Kim – I think that you are right. Maybe Angie and Brad will adopt from Africa in the near future. I personally wish that it happens sooner than later. But right now they have their hands full with those six they already have. Zahara really deserves to have an African brother or sister so that she has someone to connect with. Like you said Mad has Pax and now Shiloh has also Knox and Vivienne to look at and see the resemblance to herself. But Zahara doesn´t have an African sibling yet. Maybe she would love to have one someday. Still she sure doesn´t feel alone among her siblings. She may be the only black sibling among five white ones but she most definitely doesn´t feel neglected by them. They all love her very much no matter what color her skin is. Black or white. In this beautiful family the skin color doesn´t matter. They all are very dear to their parents. And that´s the way it should be. God bless the Jolie-Pitt family always!

I am American, my husband is Puerto Rican and our children grew up in towns where there were many nationalities. A couple of weeks ago we were having a serious discussion with our granddaughters who we live with and said to their Mom, my daughter, “when you grew up did you see colors or did you see people?” Without even thinking she said: “people”. So I then went on to ask my son’s the same question and they replied the same as our daughter. When Zee see’s Shiloh, Knox and Vivi, I believe she only see her sisters and brother. When any of the six Jolie-Pitts look at each other they only see love. Maybe if we all just saw people there would be less hatred and wars.

  8. Busra says

She’s working hard for the others. I wish the other rich, famous and arrogant celebs were like Brad&Angie.

  9. Kati says

Mary Ann – you got my point exactly! When Zee looks at Shi, Knox and Vivi she doesn´t see three white-skinned little people but two beautiful little sisters and a handsome little brother. And those three don´t see a black sister but simply a beautiful big sister. They will learn to be tolerant to other people because they see different kind of people at home. Angie and Brad have made a perfect choice to have a multicultural family. If there would be more families than theirs there certainly wouldn´t be any wars in theworld. But also the rest of us should learn to be more tolerant to those who share other skin color or religion that we. I, for one, am not a rasist. I know many foreign people in my country and have talked to them. They´re people just like the rest of us.

  10. neer says

Correct me if I am wrong but as far as i know, Brad’s sister has adopted an African child. Jolie Pitt family most often spend time with Brad’s parents & with the families of his brother & sister. So, JP kids interact with their cousins and of course Zee has someone she can connect with in the person of her black cousin.

  11. Kati says

neer – you are right. I´ve read the same story that Brad´s sis Julie has adopted an African (reportedly an Ethiopian boy) from somewhere. It´s great that Zee has an African-born cousin. Still she sure wishes secretly that she would have an African sister or brother in her own family. But like I said in my previous post I´m pretty sure that no matter what skin color her siblings have she loves them all very much and equally.

Angelina Jolie Takes Zahara to Ethiopia

    By Mary Green

It turns out that Angelina Jolie’s recent goodwill mission in Kenya was also a homecoming for one member of the Jolie-Pitt family.

While Jolie, 34, and Brad Pitt, 45, were “on a trip to Kenya with their children, Angelina stopped in Dabaab Refugee Camp, and also flew to Ethiopia with Zahara and Shiloh for two days,” a close family friend tells PEOPLE.

The girls’ trip was “the first time Zahara had been back home since her adoption,” according to the friend. Zahara, 4, was adopted from Ethiopia in 2005. “The trip was about keeping up that culture for her.”

One priority for them on the trip was looking for a place to build a TB and AIDS clinic in Zahara’s name, which would be similar to the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Project in Cambodia, an organization that helps impoverished and ill children.

While the girls were away, Pitt and the rest of the family – Madddox, 8, Pax, 5, and 1-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne – stayed behind in Kenya. “The family has been having a wonderful time,” on this trip,” says a pal. “The children are having so much fun.”

Earlier in the trip, Jolie visited Dabaab Refugee Camp, home to nearly 300,000 Somali refugees, with nearly 7,000 more arriving every month due to the food crisis in Somalia where nearly 3.6 million people are starving.

neer – thanks for the link to that article in People Magazine! I just read it and I do find it a trustworthy article. People Magazine doesn´t publish articles which aren´t true. I really think that the whole Jolie-Pitt family went to Kenya and Brad visited that refugee camp with Angie. What a wonderful thing from Angie to take Zahara to visit her native country. Zee sure doesn´t remember Ethiopia at all since she was so young (only 6 months) when she was adopted. She sure wondered where she is. And her mum sure told her that this is her home country. Also Shi sure loved to visit her big sister´s home country. While those three ladies were gone Brad and the rest of the brood sure had a blast in Kenya. Wherever they go they live in a Western-styled hotel. But hopefully the whole family is now back in France safe and sound. God bless them always!

Survey: Angelina Jolie is China’s most loved int’l star

Who are China’s most loved international stars? Global Talents, a magazine based in Beijing, purports to have the answer.

The magazine conducted a public image survey of 500 artists from the US, Britain, France, Japan and South Korea earlier this year, in terms of their morality, professional achievement, public behavior, social influence and commercial value. About 573,409 Chinese people at home and abroad were surveyed through questionnaires, online talks and telephone interviews.

Angelina Jolie has the best public image, while her partner Brad Pitt ranks 13th. The late Michael Jackson is believed to have had the highest commercial value. Sharon Stone, who said the Sichuan earthquake in 2008 was karma, scored the least.

It is the first survey on the popularity of international stars in China.

Can ‘it girl’ Megan Fox actually act?

‘Jennifer’s Body’ star is compared to Jolie but doesn’t have her talent

    …….Hot or not

Fox seems to like to draw comparisons with Angelina Jolie, by copping elements of Jolie’s style, such as the many tattoos. But style is where the comparisons begin and end. Jolie was an actress who became a tabloid fixture. Fox is a tabloid fixture who hasn’t yet earned her stripes as a serious actress.

Before Jolie developed the “Tomb Raider” tough girl persona Fox seemed to draw from in her “Transformers” role, she won an Academy Award for best supporting actress for her turn in the 1999 drama “Girl, Interrupted.” A year before that, she wowed critics and audiences with her gritty portrayal of doomed supermodel Gia Carangi in the TV biopic “Gia.”

Playing tough in “Tomb Raider” was just one element of Jolie’s acting style. Since her personal life has started to draw more attention than her acting in the past few years, people tend to forget how much range and skill she had as an actor.

……….As previously noted, Jolie’s talent provided the springboard for her hype. Fox’s talent seems to be in generating hype itself. This is why she’s becoming known more for the continuous stream of outrageous things she says in interviews than for any of her on-screen work.
There’s an old saying that goes “Looks get you in the door — personality makes sure you stay.” Fox’s looks have obviously opened a lot of doors for her. But unless she shows she can be a compelling on-screen personality, she’ll stay around only until the next “it girl” with a hot body arrives.

After six years working the red carpet for the hottest events on the showbiz calendar – including the Oscars, the Emmys, and the VMAs – E! host GIULIANA RANCIC is on first name terms with the biggest stars in Hollywood. From George Clooney (“an absolute gentleman”) to “idol” Oprah, you’re nobody in T’town, unless your fashion credentials have been assessed by the style savvy host on the red carpet. We cornered the 35-year-old during preparation for next weekend’s Emmy’s to get her style predictions for the stars…

Who’s the best dressed celeb you’ve ever seen on the red carpet?

The best dressed I’ve ever seen is Angelina Jolie. She always looks great…her style. She always looks amazing. Nicole Kidman is another one who looks so elegant. Kate Bosworth has a real classic, simple and elegant style. Helen Mirren too. For an older women, she is the best dress over 60 on the red carpet.

    Giving Props Angelina Jolie

This Women has such A beautiful Heart.. I have a love for people who use there celebrity for something worth while.
Angelina Jolie has managed to stay charitable, even though being a part of the competitive Hollywood limelight.Mrs. Brad Pitt is currently in Kenya to bring light to the problem of overcrowding in refugee camps on the Kenya Somalia border. Angelina has always been involved with charities, and is currently the Goodwill Ambassador for the UN, and she is also known for giving millions of her money to help a good cause (not to mention adopting those in need). The refugee camp in Somalia that she is visiting currently has more than three times the amount of people that it was built to accommodate.

Nice to read that the family was in Africa. I’m glad they’re able to visit the places where their children were born.

  19. Kati says

isacutie – I´m also glad that they make these trips during which they visit their chidlren´s home countries. Maybe the next time they visit either Namibia or Vietnam. They sure want Shiloh to know that she was born in Namibia and they´ll certainly take Pax to Vietnam for a short trip so that he can keep in contact with his roots. And they sure want all their children – especially Mad, Pax and Zee – to learn their native languages. Pax still can speak Vietnamese but for how long? His main language nowadays is English and he speaks it every day. And now he´s also starting to learn French. It´s a shame if he forgets Vietnamese.

Randi – there are some really hot new pics of Brad at San Sebastien Film Festival in Spain on Sherry´s site. He attended the Spanish premiere of Inglourious Basterds last night and as always managed to look really sexy. The only shame is that Angie didn´t accompany him but why should she have? It´s Brad´s movie and she has already attended the IB premieres in Cannes and LA. But it would have been nice to see this loved-up couple on the RC. The rags are gonna have a field-day with Brad´s solo appearance but who cares to read those stories anymore? I, for one, don´t. Besides this was only a one-day trip and he sure is already safely back with his beautiful family.
